By Bo Erickson (Reuters) -Democrats won races for governor in New Jersey and Virginia on Tuesday, and a self-described democratic socialist was elected New York City mayor, while Californians approved a redistricting initiative designed to help Democrats in midterm elections.

Zohran Mamdani has won the New York City mayoral election, beating out former New York governor Andrew Cuomo in a record-breaking race for voter turnout, American media reported on Tuesday.

“So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up,” Mamdani said.
