The Maryland School Report Card shows that nearly 90% of schools in the state earned three stars or better, which is up 3% compared to last year.

Seven total schools were rated as five star: Norrisville, Jarrettsville, Churchville and Bel Air elementary schools and Harford Technical High School all retained five-star ratings from the previous year. Red Pump and North Bend elementary schools, which achieved four stars in the previous year were bumped up to five stars in this year’s ratings.

Carroll County elementary schools had the second-highest achievement scores in the state, and middle schools had the third-highest.

The annual report released Monday measure schools across key performance indicators, including academic achievement, student progress, college and career readiness, and school climate. This year, the number of South Carolina schools earning an overall rating of ‘Good’ or ‘Excellent’ increased from 549 to 623.
